Misconceptions
In collaboration with BLK Brit, ‘Misconceptions’ amplifies the lived experiences of Black individuals beyond the capital—those whose voices are often overshadowed in national narratives. Centering contributions from Birmingham born Jahmel Coleman, and Mel McKoy from Milton Keynes, the project we explored the stereotypes and common mistaken beliefs associated with Black Brits living outside of London, and highlights the diversity of Black British identity across the UK. Through this creative conceptual project and candid interviews, the work disrupts assumptions about place, belonging, and Black Britishness as a whole.
